Solstice Song

The Darkness Holy

O Blessed is the darkness holy
Bless the branches and the holly
O Bless the child
The light eternal
Born in the dark
The dark of winter

The trees are bare
And void of lifeblood
The birds in air
No song for singing
Yet in a manger
Cold and lowly
A little child
Like us born holy

Light the candles in the window
Bring the boughs around the mantle
Sing together, voices slowly
Find the graces of the lowly
The Mother maiden
Father Joseph
Light the fires and flames so holy
Light eternal turns again
Life divine doth grow within
